Noah Lawson | Sound Artist in Residence

Noah Lawson is a composer, sound designer, and producer from Northumberland. He read music at the University of  Oxford, where he was appointed the Composition Scholar at St Anne’s College. Studying composition under Prof. Martyn Harry and Dr. Eugene Birman, he had pieces workshopped and performed by groups such as the Anima Ensemble and Ensemble Isis. Noah went on to gain a distinction in a master’s degree in music production at the University of York.

Having gained a place on the BBC’s Sound First talent development programme, Noah has worked on sound design commissions for Radio 3’s The Verb, amongst other clients, who described him as “one of our most exciting new sound designers”. For the latter of these commissions, Noah worked on a poem written and performed by the Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, which addresses the impact of climate change on polar ice caps. Noah has independently recorded and released two albums, His music drawing upon his training as a classical musician, his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and improvisor, and his interest in music technology. A member of the World Wildlife Recording Society, Noah can often be found with his parabolic dish in the early hours of the morning recording birds and other animals.
